Hello! Today I wanted to talk about a game that I really enjoyed playing when it came out last year, Life is Strange!

Life is Strange is an episodic game developed by DONTNOD and published by Square Enix. We follow an eighteen year old girl named Max who is attending the prestigious Blackwell Academy to focus on photography. The story quickly turns to one of adventure and mystery when Max discovers that she had special powers, turning her life, and others lives, upside down.

What I Liked About It

The story was great in my opinion. It kept you on your toes and threw curve balls at the perfect time to keep you guessing. It had a great balance of exploration with action – esque sequences that helped push the story along. Each episode was 2 -3 hours long, so I felt as though I got my money’s worth.

Character development is another thing they did super well. Some of the characters are annoying, but they all feel real. Every one of them could totally be kids you knew in high school.  It makes the immersion even better.

The trophy fiend in me loved the optional photos you could find in order to platinum the game. They were a super cool side quest you were able to partake in during every episode. None of them were overly obvious which brought a nice challenge along with it.

What I Disliked

As with almost every “your choices matter / butterfly effect” kind of game, in the end your choices didn’t REALLY matter. Everyone is faced with the same two options in the end game, no matter what you did in the previous chapters. The endings are still good, but it is a bit disappointing.

Since all of the characters are very real, we have to do with some super annoying ones throughout the game. I personally couldn’t stand Chloe, so I’m sure those of you who have finished Life is Strange know what ending I picked…

Anyway, after all is said and done, I love Life is Strange. I’ve played through it numerous times, and each play-through brought new cool little things to light.
